A Work of Heart: lockdown entertainment
The national lockdown has understandably left a lot of us feeling a little flat; short-term memories of homeschooling, banana bread-making, Zoom quizzes and Joe Wicks’ workouts, although great at the time, now send shivers down our spines.
For residents in our care homes, it’s the prospect of potentially missing out on spending time with loved ones again. While we all know lockdown measures are essential to protect our physical health, human connection is an integral part of who we are and has an undeniable impact on our emotional wellbeing.
Thankfully, this lockdown we’re not as restricted as we previously were. Somerset Care have worked tirelessly to ensure all 27 of our care homes have a designated visitor space to allow people to safely see their loved ones, without putting anyone’s physical health at risk.
We are able to welcome guests to our visitor suites in most of our homes; they consist of a comfortable space where a resident and their visitor can communicate through a clear screen, to avoid any cross contamination. While we appreciate it’s not the best of experiences, we’re doing all we can to ensure it's as enjoyable and safe an experience as possible. However, to make it even more welcoming, we're asking for your help!
Another lockdown is the perfect opportunity for you to get creative and enter our ‘Work of Heart’ competition, where your talents could feature within our visitor suites. No matter what your age, or whether you’re a budding artist, or a seasoned professional, we’re open to submissions from everyone.
The winning designs will become a permanent feature in our homes, which we know will be so well received by our residents who will get to enjoy your artistry every day. Our residents and staff are so excited at the part you can play in making their visitor space so much more special.
To discover more about how to enter, visit our Work of Heart page, where you can upload your designs and share the inspiration behind your creativity. To get your imagination going, we suggest you base the artwork designs on revisiting your favourite memories.
We can’t wait to see what you’ve got! Best of luck!
